The Rascals once again played a clutch game against the visiting Rockford Aviators in O’Fallon on Thursday night, picking up a 4-1 victory, and completing the three-game sweep. It marks the first sweep River City has recorded since the season’s first homestand against Lake Erie.

The Rascals jumped ahead early in the contest and never looked back. Eric Williams opened the bottom of the first inning with a triple off the right field wall, and with one away, Evan Crawford drew a walk. With runners on the corners, Phil Wunderlich launched a three-run homer over the Big Dog Wall (40ft high) in right to make it 3-0.

River City piled on in the sixth. Crawford drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jake Atwell followed it up with an RBI double to pull ahead by four.

The Aviators scored their only run in the seventh when Kenny Bryant doubled into the gap to score Matt Greener from second base. Rockford stranded eight runners on base, but six were left in scoring position.

Craig Goodman earned the win in a brilliant start, his first professional W. He went six strong innings on just one run and two hits, walking three and fanning seven. Gabe Shaw notched the save in the ninth.

The Rascals hit the road for Washington, Pennsylvania to open a three-game road trip before returning home next week. For tickets, fans can call (636)240-BATS, or visit www.RiverCityRascals.com.
